(Salt Lake City) – VentureCapital.org and the Wayne Brown Institute presented its “Legends in Venture Capital” award to Alan J. Patricof at the 27th Annual Investors Choice® Venture Capital Conference, “Build Wealth. Grow Jobs,” at the Zermatt Resort & Spa in Midway, Utah, on Thursday, February 10. Mr. Patricof was also the keynote speaker at the event.

Alan Patricof is the founder and managing director of private equity firms with $35 billion under management. He stepped back from the daily administration and operational aspects of Apax Partners, LP in 2001 to concentrate on a group of small venture deals on its behalf.

Two panel discussions followed Mr. Patricof’s address: “Building a Deal to Raise Capital” and “Finding Your First Dollar - The Alumni Speak.” Panelists included investors from around the country.

Attendance at this year’s Investors Choice Venture Capital Conference increased 12% over the prior year. Investor attendance was up 20%. According to Brad Bertoch, “Interest in this conference continues to gain momentum each year, due to the great program and the caliber of the presenting companies.”

Presenting at the conference were 23 innovative companies seeking capital from venture investors. Prior to the conference, these high growth potential companies had been screened, selected, and mentored through a number of sessions with teams of experienced professionals throughout the angel and venture capital field. Following a series of practice presentations and meetings with mentors, these promising companies made their ten-minute pitch at the Conference.

Entrepreneurs benefitted from Wayne Brown Institute’s model of volunteerism, in which over 125 mentors devoted a total of more than 3,000 hours, attending 115 meetings to prepare entrepreneurs for the challenge. There is no other investor conference in the country that does this quite this way, with donated time and expertise from such a talented pool of venture professionals.

Selected companies were chosen based on their ability to achieve projected sales, their strong management team, and/or their proprietary technology. They represented a variety of industries, but each of the selected companies was deemed to have a realistic capability of attaining $30-$100 million USD a year in sales within three to seven years.
